Frequently Asked Questions
You have questions, we have answers! We understand there's a lot that goes into planning your event, and we have put together a list of questions many people ask during the initial discovery process. Of course, if you have particular questions reach out to us! We're always happy to answer any inquiry you can think up!

How large is the venue?
The Playhouse is about 6,000 square feet. The large T-shaped main theater/barn area is approximately 4,000 square feet, and the other wing of the Playhouse with a lounge area, an art deco bar, and large brick fireplace makes up the remaining 2,000 square feet. Additionally, there are Suites for the wedding parties, a commercial kitchen, and two separate multi-stall bathrooms.

Is the Playhouse open year round?
Due to the nature of the theater, and the unpredictable winter weather in Midcoast Maine, we are open for events from late March to early December. We welcome you to contact us for our current availability so you can schedule your perfect event with us!

May we use our own vendors?
Of course, however they will need to be preapproved if they are not on our list. At a loss for who to use? We have a list of preferred vendors who we have personally vetted, and have an excellent reputation. The vendors on our list are familiar with our venue, and have a track record of quality, service, and attention to detail.

Is there heat and A/C?
Yes to both! The Playhouse has six large commercial mini split units that keep the building cool and comfortable in the hot months. A large Modine ceiling heater takes the chill out of the air during the cooler months. For a little extra ambiance we also have a fully functioning fireplace in our lounge for you and your guests to cozy up to.

Do you book other events than weddings?
We sure do, we love a good celebration! Other events we're available to host are family reunions, corporate gatherings, lobster bakes, elopements, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, celebrations of life, class reunions, birthday parties...just to name a few!

Are we required to get our own host/event insurance?
In our experience it's better to be overprepared than underprepared. For your own peace of mind we do require that you obtain Day of Event Coverage through our insurance partner, Nuptial Risk. We're happy to walk you through the details & answer questions!

Is there on-site parking?
We offer parking for up to 90 vehicles including vendors. If you have guests staying in the Boothbay area we do encourage you to hire a shuttle/transportation service for local travel. Not only for the safety of your guests, but also to fully optimize the parking area if you're anticipating a larger event. Always want to make sure everyone gets home safe and sound!

What is the rental period?
We have several options from a one-day rental, all the way to a full 3-day weekend rental. We offer exclusive access to the entire building and the grounds for your event, so the venue is all yours! As we plan your perfect day (or days) we can go into more detail, and see which option best suits the type of event you're planning.

Are vendors required to have insurance?
We do require that all vendors carry general liability insurance. Rest assured that all vendors on our approved list do carry insurance, which is one less thing for you to worry about!

Do you require that we use a wedding planner?
We do not require that you have a wedding planner as part of hosting your event with us. That's completely up to you! Planners are incredibly helpful, and if you choose to hire one we would be pleased to work with them every step of the way. For those who opt not to hire a planner we require a Day-Of Coordinator as part of your wedding package with us. We feel this is an incredibly important service to take the pressure off the couple, and to keep everything running smoothly without you having to even think about it!

What if the power goes out??
We get it, the weather in Maine can be unpredictable at times. For this very reason we equipped the Playhouse with a 30kw generator that will power all operations in the event of an outage. There's no reason your event should stop just because the electricity isn't cooperating!

Can we supply our own alcohol?
We are fully licensed by the state of Maine to provide bartending services, because of this we cannot permit any outside beer, wine, or liquor. This doesn't mean you can't fully customize your bar offerings! We're happy to work with you to craft the perfect libations menu for you and your guests.

When are the payments due? Do you offer a payment plan?
Your preferred date is finalized upon completion of a signed contract and remittance of a retainer equaling 30% of the package price. Subsequent payments will be made at nine months, and then three months prior to the event. Each payment will be a split of the remaining balance due. You are welcome to send smaller, partial payments of any amount prior to the specified due date, in effect creating your own payment plan on your own schedule. We ask that you please include the last names of the couple and the wedding date in the memo line if you are mailing a check. Full payment is due by the specified due date per your contract.

How do I reserve a date?
To reserve a date email, simply us at theboothbayplayhouse@gmail.com saying you are ready to book a “preferred date” if it is still available. Please also include a backup date in the event your preferred date is unavailable. Prior to booking a date, we hope you are able to come out in person to visit the theatre. You can request a tour (or a virtual tour if you live out of the area) on our tour request page, but an in person tour is not required prior to booking a date. Dates are reserved on a first requested basis. Whomever has requested to start the contract process from us by email first for a specific date will be first in line.

Do I need to schedule a tour, or can I just stop by?
We kindly request that all tours are by appointment only. You can request a tour here.
